About Your Hosts

The Ridge was conceived by Irene Hofmann and Max Protetch–veterans of the contemporary art field. Irene was a museum director and contemporary art curator for over 25 years, most recently as the Director & Chief Curator of SITE Santa Fe. Over the years she has curated new commissions, special projects, and solo exhibitions by artists such as: Dawoud Bey, Liz Cohen, Mark Dion, Pablo Helguera, Inigo Manglano-Ovalle, Marjetica Potrč, Michael Rakowitz, Regina Silveira, and Andrea Zittel. Max was the owner of Max Protetch Gallery which had its start in Washington, DC in 1969 and later moved to New York City. In the early years, Max showed some of the most significant artists of the post-war era, including Sol LeWitt, Andy Warhol, Joseph Kosuth, Dan Graham, Carl Andre, Robert Morris, and On Kawara. Later in the gallery’s forty year run, Max created a market for drawings by architects (showing and/or representing figures such as Frank Lloyd Wright, Zaha Hadid, and Rem Koolhaas,) and showed a range of prominent emerging and established artists across disciplines.

For years, Irene and Max opened their art-filled Santa Fe home and guest house to artists, curators, and colleagues in the art world. Today, they invite you to be their guests at their newest property, The Ridge.
